Up and Coming Events for Loscoe Women's Institute.
Including Fundraising.
After the sucess of our fundraising for 2010 / 2011,
we are looking to support a few small local charities this year.

Here you can see any events that are in the diary some are just for members others are open to all.
As you will notice we also enjoy a wide range of social activities.

Friday 17th February 2012 Our Christmas meal, yes we always get together this time of year for a meal.
This year we are going to The French Horn in Codnor for lunch.

Monday 5th March 2012 - Spring Group Meeting at Wilmot Street Community Centre.
Starting at 7.15pm
The evening will be hosted by Heanor WI, who request the pleasure of the company of all West Leys Group members to their
"Royal Command Performance" in Honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Guest speaker Dulcie Lewis, author and humorist, and the debut of the Heanor Babes.
We wish Heanor WI all the best as they host their first Group Meeting.
Evening Dress Optional Competition - A andmade hat, fascinator, tiara or similar.

6th March 2012 - Spring Federation Meeting at The Winding Wheel, Chesterfield. Dame Jenni Murray will be the guest speaker.
A request by Derbyshire library services to take unwanted books to this meeting has been made.
Not just any old books, they must be in good condition most subjects are needed including:
local history, novels, children's books, but not DIY or childcare as these go out of date quickly.

Saturday 10th March 2012 18 members have tickets to see the matinee performance of The King and I.
This is being performed by The Central Operatic Society at Landau Forte College in Derby.

Monday 26th March 2012 Four members have booked places on a free IT session organised by Amber Valley CVS and Disability Debyshire Coalition for Inclusive Living.
The sessions which run for two hours will focus on using software to design a promotion item, eg poster, calendar or card.
How to print them and different options available for use in future promotion events. Four more members are booked in for the session on Monday 23rd April.

Saturday 21st April 2012 – Inspiring Women event at the Winding Wheel, Chesterfield. 10.30am - 3.30pm.
Free for all the family and friends. Lots of activities to try, craft Demonstations, Zumba, Fashion show, Belly Dancing, Beauty Treatments amd much more.
There will also be a Plant Sale and Refreshments.

Monday 23rd April 2012 Four more members will attend the free IT session offered by
Amber Valley CVS and Disability Debyshire Coalition for Inclusive Living.

Wednesday 30th May 2012 - NFWI AGM Royal Albert Hall, London. Jacqueline Halford is attending as our delegate.
Past Events

2nd December - Group carol service at St. John's Church, Smalley. Thank you Smalley for arranging this lovely Carol Sevice.

29th November - Christmas Dinner at The Dome in Buxton. A super meal, beautifully presented by very attentative student from the Catering department.

18th November - Charity Stall on Heanor Market.
We raised over £200 for next years charity, thank you to everyone who supported us. Our heart felt thanks also go to Ian from Ripley Animal Feeds for lending us a stall cover. There are a few photos on our November meetings page. View them Here.

24th October – Loscoe WI hosted the West Leys Group Meeting, with Mick Mullarkey providing the entertainment.

Fun at our Murder Mystery evening.
18th October Our annual Murder Mystery with Belper Players was a tremendous success.
Our thanks to Panny and all the staff at The Sea Fish Restaurant, Ripley,
for making us so welcome.

4th October - Derbyshire Federation Autumn Council Meeting - Assembly Rooms Derby.
Loscoe president Janet Padgham attended the Autumn Council Meeting on a warm October day.
Federation Chairman Nancy Hawksworth opened the meeting and welcomed everyone to the Assembly Rooms.
The Mayor of Derby Councillor Les Allen gave the Civic welcome and spoke about the changes that are going on in the city centre.
Sheila Taylor MBE from Safe and Sound was the speaker for the morning
and she spoke passionately about her efforts to help prevent sexual exploitation of children.
The afternoon session saw Lynne Stubbings from NFWI Training giving an inspiring talk
about the Moodle and online learning.

We then came to the highlight of the day.
Monty Halls minus his big black labrador Reuben gave an illustrated tallk about his life
from joining the marines to travelling the world as a Marine Biologist and TV presenter.
He went down a storm, with the audience laughing as Monty recounted his tales of adventure.
Janet bought a couple of his books and as you can see had a photo taken with Monty,
and no, Janet was not standing in a hole.

28th July A group of us went to see A Midsummer Night's Dream
performed as part of Belper Players 75th Anniversry Celebrations.

The action took place in Belper Memorial Gardens and the evening was warm and dry.
23rd July - Our Summer Fayre at the Evergreen centre was fantastic.
Thanks to all our members and friends who worked so hard to make it such a success..
We took over £1000 on the day and we must thank the people of Losoce for giving us such a lot of support.

20th May 2011 – Going to the Dogs, Nottingham Greyhound Racing.
Members have been to the dogs and I hope to have a few photos to add at a later date.

We had a super lunch at Buxton, The Dome, beautifully cooked and served by the college students.
There was time after lunch to look round the Dome or wander down to the shops in Buxton.


1st March 2011
Breadsal hosted the West Leys Group meeting and welcomed everyone with a glass of sherry,
we were then given a demonstration on Chocolate Art.


25th February 2011
Our annual Christmas lunch, this year we went to Georges Tradition at Woodlinkin,
Ann brought along a few Christmas Crackers and a great time was had by all.


7th February 2011
7 members went to Derbyshire House for an event entitled A Taste of India,
we had a lovely evening which included a fashion show with some beautiful saris
and a tasting session with some Indian cuisine.


25th November 2010
22 members and friends had a lovely evening at the Strutt Centre in Belper watching

Charity stall on Heanor Market. Every year we have a tombola on Heanor Market.
This year we raised over £200 to go to local charities.
we were selling some beautiful handmade goods and also had a Christmas Theme to our tombola.
Steve Leonard was the guest speaker for the afternoon.

The weather was perfect for a leisurely lunch aboard the Nottingham Princess. with Princess River Cruises.

Summer Fayre at the Evergreen Centre, Egreaves Avenue, Loscoe.
Crafts and hand-made goods inc. Jewellery, Cards, Bags, Jams and Preserves.
This was a huge success with fantastic support from all our members and a great turnout from local people.

An afternoon at the theatre, members went to see Stepping Out at Derby Theatre,
Starring Brian Capron and Anita Harris.

Denman College
28th June 2010
Nine members went to Denman College for an open day. We went with ladies from other local WI groups.
There was plenty of opportunity to see what goes on at the college and watch some demonstrations.

Easter Raffle
March 2010
Easter was another chance for a raffle with a Hamper containing a Thorntons Fudge Easter Egg, kindly donated by Frosts of Heanor.
Thankyou to Fosts and to members and friends of Loscoe WI who donated chocolate or bought raffle tickets.
Mary Hicking won the Easter Hamper.

At our Christmas Party we had a raffle to win a Hamper with lots of other prizes also up for grabs
We also asked members to make a donation towards the Air Ambulance instead of giving Chistmas cards.


Red and white tombola October 2009
Our fund raising events got off to a great start with a Tombola on Heanor Market, where we raised over £100.
The theme for the tombola was red and white.
