Meeting held on 18th April 2012

Kath and Betty.
President Janet Padgham opened the April meeting by welcoming everyone especially our new member.
It was with sadness that the death of Kath Binns was announced.
Kath passed away on Thursday 22nd March at her home on Leniscar Avenue.
She had been an active member of our WI for many years and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Many members attended her funeral at Loscoe Baptist Chapel on Monday 16th April.
Janet then moved on to the many business items including Community Messaging Service from Derbyshire Constabulary and last year's SOS Campaign for Honey Bees.
Main items were about the WI Denman College and information on the future WI Centenary in London.
Items from the Newsletter were highlighted and members were directed to the WI Derbyshire Link.
Members had been invited to William Howitt School at Easter an enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at their Easter Tea Party.
The children's choirs were exceptional in their performance and Chris Miller had sent a card congratulating them.
We look forward to their visit to us later in the year.
April 21st sees members attending the 'Inspiring Women' event at the Winding Wheel in Chestefield and some members taking part in an I.T. course on the 23rd April.
Our next event is the Nottingham Ghost Walk on Saturday 28th April.
We are also taking part in the Heanor Community Fair at St. Lawrence Church Heanor on Saturday 5th May.
The 11th May is the evening for Ten Pin Bowling at Ilkeston. (We have a pretty busy month)
Jackie Halford has arranged various trips for the summer which are being filled with enthusiasm. Thanks Jackie!
Betty reads one of her poems.
Unfortunately, our speaker for the evening was unavoidably detained elsewhere and we were rescued admirably by our own Betty Wardle
who entertained in style with her own poetry, stories and witisisms. Betty used to write plays and pantomines for the WI to perform,
she also wrote poems about her love of her garden and the great outdoors.
The vote of thanks was given by Kath Jenkins, who thanked Betty for standing in at such short notice,
and echoed everyones views that the poems were beautifully written and read.
The competition of an unusual recipe was won by Kath Sperry with a recipe for courgette and camomile cupcakes.
Janet Padgham then demonstrated a 'chocolate pudding in a mug' which we all tried along with the plum cake from Ann Willis.
The door raffle was won be Chris Miller.
Our next meeting will be held and the Evergreen Community Centre, Egreaves Avenue on Wednesday 16th May.
