Each was the receipient of £100 cheqeue from our W.I. charity fund.
Ann, David and Janet.
Ann and David receive the cheque on behalf of The Red River project.
The friends of the Red River plan to use the money towards wild flowers,
so hopefully we should see a splash of colour in Loscoe next year.
Jean, Lyn and Janet.
Jean and Lyn eceive the cheque on behalf of St. Lukes Church.
St Lukes will use their donation towards the new heating to replace the copper piping stolen earlier this year.
Janet asked for suggestions for our next years charity which will be voted on at our January meeting.
We are currently planning our trips and outings for next year including a lunch at George's Tradition at Woodlinkin,
a theatre visit in March and a Federation event at Derbyshire House, called A taste of India.
Loscoe W.I. also wishes to acknowledge the kindness and generosity of Mr Smith, who gave so many items, for us to sell, to boost our fund raising for local charities.
Plenty to eat on the buffet table.
The remainder of the meeting was given to celebrating our Christmas Party with great food and drink and with the entertainment by Mick Malarky.
Mick on guitar. Mick on guitar. Mick plays the Ukulele.
Mick played his guitar and sang lots of old time songs for us to join in with.
He also played on a Ukulele.
Tears of laughter for Rachel.
Mick recited stories and jokes which kept us in fits of laughter throughout the evening.
A great time was had by all.
Mick truly is a marvellous entertainer and we would recommend him to any group wanting a fun evening.
A flourish at the end of a song. Lyn joins in with a duet. She knows all the words.
Mick and Lyn sing a duet, much to Lyn's absolute delight.
We hope all residents had a Merry Christmas and a Happy and peaceful New Year and would welcome any new friends who wish to join us in January,
when our guest will be Georgina Pearson who will be demonstrating make-up and skin care.

Meeting held on 17th November 2010

A busy November meeting including a cheque presentation, our AGM, the Harvest Supper and an auction.
Janet and Eileen.
Every year Loscoe Women's Institute chooses a charity to support, raising funds through raffles,
a tombola and events such as our summer fayre,
which proved to be such a success that we hope to have another in 2011.
The past year our chosen charity has been the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
Over the year an incredible £1000 has been raised for this worthy cause.
At this meeting a cheque was presented to Eileen Turner from the DLRAA.
Eileen thanked everyone for the money, and said it will be a great help in keeping this vital service going.
We at Loscoe Women's Institute would like to express a huge thanks to the people of Loscoe
who supported us in our fund raising efforts.
The cheque is presented to Eileen Turner.

Meeting held on 21st July 2010

Our July meeting was opened by a welcome from our President Janet Padgham to all our members and guests. She spoke of the important role each and everyone has to play in our fast growing branch in Loscoe. We are always ready to welcome new friends within the group.
Apologies were received from members who were on holiday and those not feeling well. Janet reminded everyone about the forthcoming events in our neighbouring W.I. - the Breadsall Hog Roast, Stanley Common Garden Party, The Ilkeston Quiz Night to name but a few. She also informed the group about 'Denman comes to Derbyshire.' This is an opportunity to meet the tutors from Denman College. This will include the tutors speaking about the courses, particularly walking and climbing couses, watercolours and photography and history and heritage.
Over the last few weeks our group at Loscoe have experienced quite a few activities and visits. The Derbyshire Tour, a theatre visit, a trip to Denman College and a walk planned by June Camm. Our Thanks to all those who organised these activities.
The next walk will be on the 3rd August, meeting on Heanor Market at 10.00am. Our next big event will be our Summer Fair on Saturday 7th August at 2pm at the Evergreen Centre on Egreaves Avenue. Proceeds from our Summer Fair and other fund raising events will be for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, our chosen charity for this year.
We are also looking forward to our Murder Mystery Evening at the Ormonde Fields Golf Club on 5th October. An event not to be missed and is held with the support of Belper Players.
Our speaker for the evening was Dorothy Allsopp who gave a most inspiring flower arranging demonstration.
The flower arrangenents were raffled off at the end of the evening.

Dorothy adds the finishing touches. A basket of roses. Mary is pleased to be a winner
The first arrangement was a basket of roses.
Dorothy made the flowers look as though they had just been picked and placed in the basket.
This arrangement was won by Mary.
Trimming Arranging The finished arrangement Eileen Betty.
This arrangement was made in two parts with soft peach roses and white chrysanthemums.
Eileen and Betty were the lucky winners of these arrangements.

Dorothy begins the third arrangment. Taking shape. A few final touches. Beautiful!
The third arrangement was quite stunning, with bright yellow gerbera daisies, Celosia or cockscomb and large varigated leaves. This was won by Athley, one of our visitors.
It was a pleasure to watch Dorothy create such beautiful arrangements and she certainly inspied some of our members to try their hand at flower arranging.
Just had to add another photo. Athley admires her prize
It had been a very enjoyable evening with quite a few members bringing guests.
Our next meeting will be in September and will be a 'Skittle Night' at the Eclipse Inn, Loscoe.

The remainder of the meeting was a 'hands on' patchwork session led by Lisa Newton and Viv Gregg
who had brought along many examples of their own work from quilts to patchwork bags.
Everyone spent time making large patterned squares which will be made into our very own W.I. quilt.
Many members asked if we could have a 'get together' to see the progress of the quilt and learn other hand crafted skills from each other.
Busy fingers get to grips with the sewing. Lyn was happy to help. Hold it like this. Deep in concentration.
A hive of activity. Why do needles have such small holes, I'm sure they used to be bigger. This ones nearly done. Viv is ready to help if need be.
We are really enjoying this. It's great to learn new skills. In true Blue Peter fashion, here's one I prepared earlier. Team work will get the quilt made.
Busy, busy, busy. Lisa checks on the progress. Everyone got stuck in. There's plenty of time to chat while you work.
