This the forth visit for Maurice and hence he had with him his forth Pandora's Box.
Maurice never ceases to amaze us with his collection of strange and unusual objects.
Once again great fun was had by all as we tried to work out the uses for a collection of artifacts.
A cigarette holder, a glass jar with a rounded bottom, no way would that stand up.
There were about thirty items in all and Maurice revealed their uses at the end of the evening.

He asked Joan, June and Vivien to stand up and pointed out how each person had quite distinctive differences.

Meeting held on 20th July 2011
President Janet Padgham welcomed members and guests to the July meeting of Loscoe Women's Institute.
Janet informed the meeting of the decision to postpone the Fashion show scheduled for September, until the Spring.
This is because we have had to change the date and venue for our annual Murder Mystery evening.
This will now take place on Tuesday 18th October at The Sea Fish Restaurant, Cromford Road, Ripley,
but will of course feature Belper Players as usual.
Tickets are on sale at £15 each, this includes a three course meal.
Quiz sheets are still available as is the suggestion box for trips for the coming year.
J.J Walkers will be going for a gentle walk around Shipley park on Thursday 28th July, thanks once again to June for organising the walks.
A Mid-summer Night's Dream.
That evening nine of our members will be attending a performance of 'A Midsummer Nights Dream'
by Belper Players., this takes place in the Memorial Gardens in Belper.

The last item of business was the Summer Fayre due to take place on Saturday 23rd July.
Final arrangements were discussed.
The remainder of the evening was handed over to Neil Bradley and his colleagues, Chris and Rosalyn from Ripley Tai Chi Club.
Neil gave us an insight into Tai Chi and a demonstration, then we were able to take part ourselves.
All members were very enthusiastic and keen to 'have a go' and the evening was a huge success.
Neil show us some of the first moves. Chris is a menber of Ripley Tai Chi. Rosalyn, Chris & Neil demonstrate the art of Tai Chi.
Neil, Chris and Rosalyn went through a series of moves, then every member stood up and followed these moves, we could watch Neil, Chris or Rosalyn and copy the same movements. Time for us to have a go. Gently does it. Everyones in the right position.
Then just a few members had another go at a different series of moves. More space was needed so some members watched from the side.
Rachel and Janet stepping out.
Looking graceful as they moved in time with Neil.
It's all a bit baffling. A little bit of gentle self defence. Copy what Neil does, he makes it look so easy.
A little demonstration of gentle self defence, as we paired up to have a go.
Rachel & Lisa, friend or foe!.

Rachel and Lisa get to grips with the moves, now, now take it easy.

The vote of thanks was given by Vivien Gregg.
The door raffle was won by Margaret Allen and the competition, a limerick, by Marion Granger. Here are the Tai Chi limericks that were entered into the competition.
Marion's is the first one.
We once had a go at Tai Chi
It's very relaxing you see
You move very gently
Like a ride in a Bentley
And then have a nice cup of tea.
We once had a go at Tai Chi
But Nanna twisted her knee
A Chinese Art
But she looked such a F--t
She gave up and went home for tea.
We once had a go at Tai Chi
Does he know I'm an OAP
He said "Get off your bum,
And join in the fun
Then go and make us a brew

We once had a go at Tai Chi
T'was a serious challenge to me
But I think I did fine
Though I've eached eight nine
When we had a go at Tai Chi
We once had a go at Tai Chi
And now I can straighten my knee
Like a tiger I'm pouncing
Like a crane I am dancing
But Oh! for a nice cup of tea.
We once had a go at Tai Chi
And stated it off with much glee
Then we stretched and we bent
Till our energy spent
We're glad to hear "lets stop for tea"

As can be seen from the limericks, Tea is upper most in everyones mind.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 21st September when our speaker will be Mr Paul Newsham with a talk about Biometrics.
Not sure what it is? come along and be enlightened.

Our Summer Fayre was a great success.
Thankfully the weather was kind to us, and the people of Loscoe, as usual, hugely supportive.
A great deal of work had been put into this event by members, they had been baking cakes,
making jams and chutneys, growing plants and sewing and knitting.
Some of the craft work was done on Saturday mornings, once a month,
in an endeavour to have plenty of goods for the stalls.
The fayre was opened by Mr Tony Cowley from Help for Heroes and also by Mr Terry Whittaker from the British Legion,
these two groups work closely together to support our wounded soldiers and their families.
Mr Terry Whittaker & Mr Tony Cowley.
Our thanks once again to all who supported us with this event, and helped raise over £1000 towards Help for Heroes.
See our events page for a list of raffle prize winners.
All prizes have been claimed.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of one of our founder members, Mrs Alice Wathey.
Alice was a very active member for many years and although she had not been able to attend meetings for the past few years
she was still in our thoughts whenever past events were remembered.
A few members from Loscoe WI will attend Alice's funeral at St. Luke's Church.

New members and visitors are always welcome to Loscoe Women's Institute.
